The Jaguar Classic will be October 7th. Each student will need 2 adults to volunteer on this day. Sign ups are on the whiteboard in the band room. If you did not attend the Sept. parent meeting, you will need to sign up this week for a job. If you need clarification about job descriptions, please see a Booster member or
Mr. Gibson. I will be in the band room Friday before and after the football game to answer any questions or help you select a job. I will also be there Saturday at 11:00 AM. We desperately need parents with trucks and trailers to help with this event.

The competition season begins next weekend!
There will be a home football game against Crest HS Friday at 7:30 PM . The band will be in full uniform! Students need to wear their show shirt, gym shorts (not cargo shorts), black socks, and band shoes. Students will perform the show during halftime. I need parents to help with drum major podiums during National Anthem and the halftime show. Also, I need parents to help remove props from the field after the performance. Please see me during the first quarter if you can help. I will be seated with the band. Kristie Tweed will contact you if you are signed up for snacks/drinks this weekend.

Mr. Gibson has posted the times for Olde English Festival of Bands this Saturday on the website. http://forestviewband.blogspot.com/
I need a parent with a truck and trailer or box truck to bring the props to the competition in Rock Hill. You will receive an admission ticket for your help. Please contact myself or Mr. Gibson immediately if you can assist. The buses will arrive around 12:30 PM at District 3 stadium in Rock Hill. If you can assist with getting props and front ensemble equipment on and off the field, find the band trailer (located on the opposite side of the stadium from car parking) at 1:30 PM. I will need 16-20 parents to assist.

I need 2 parents to ride the buses as chaperones on Saturday. You will receive admission to the event for chaperoning. Please let me know this week if you are interested. All chaperones need to be approved volunteers with Gaston Co. Schools.

Water bottles and sports drinks are needed for after school practices. Please send in donations to the band room any day of the week. Drinks are needed as early as Monday.

Band Camp Information

Parents and Students,

I hope you all are having a great summer break.  This year is going to be a great year for our FHS Marching Jaguars! I just wanted to take a moment to remind everyone about the schedule for band camp.

July 25th- July 28th PRE CAMP
- Guard, Percussion, Student Leaders and First Year Marchers 8am-3pm
- ALL STUDENTS 1pm-3pm

July 31st - August 4th BAND CAMP WEEK 1
- ALL STUDENTS 8am-6pm

August 7th- August 11th BAND CAMP WEEK 2
- ALL STUDENTS 8am-8pm

All students will be rehearsing Mondays.Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3pm-6pm Starting August 10th until the end of marching season.

All students should bring a bag lunch each day.  The band boosters will be providing dinner the week of August 7th. No student will be allowed to leave campus for lunch or dinner.

There will be a band parent meeting on Tuesday, August 1 at 6:00 PM in the band room. This will be your chance to learn about the marching season, fundraising, band dues, and ways to volunteer.

In preparation of band camp, the boosters need your help. The band students will consume hundreds of bottles of water and sports drinks because it is always HOT during camp. Please start asking for donations from local businesses or purchase items when on sale. Donations can be dropped off in the band room starting the first day of band camp. We will take donations during all 3 weeks of camp. We currently have 80 band members on the roster.

Thank you for supporting the Forestview band program! If you have any questions please email Mr. Gibson at njgibson@gaston.k12.nc.us

Graduation June 10th

Graduation June 10th

WE WILL NOT BE REHEARSING ON JUNE 9th

Graduation is mandatory of all band members.

All band students are to report to the band room at 8am to get their instrument and head straight to the stadium for the performance.
The graduation ceremony starts at 9am and typically lasts an hour.

The graduation performance is half of the final exam grade.  If a student is not there they will receive a maximum score of 50% on the Final exam.  I have spoken to some students who were responsible and let me know of any conflicts in advance. If there is a conflict with being at graduation a note will be required on why the student will be absent.

All current band students in grade 9-11 have to score a 70% or higher on their final exam to come to the band camps over the summer and be in the class next school year.

If you have any questions please email Mr. Gibson. njgibson@gaston.k12.nc.us

Yes You Have Homework In Band

Students,

Yes you have homework in band.  It is called practicing.  This is an expectation of all band students. Please take time to practice like we have discussed numerous times.

1. warm up with long tones/tune
2. practice technique by playing all 12 major scales
3. work on solo music for your instrument or band music.
4. find recordings of the piece you are performing and analyze the performances.

It is expected that all band students take home their instrument over spring break and practice for our upcoming performances.  All band students will have a playing test when they come back from break. All students will be responsible for all 12 major scales and any warm up/band piece of music we have been working on in class.

Happy Practicing,

Mr. Gibson

Extra Credit Opportunity

April 17th Mr. Gibson is performing his graduate recital at Winthrop University's Recital Hall, If you attend you will receive 100% extra credit for a test grade.

Leadership Meeting After School Today

In NYC

Students must always be with their group and a chaperone!!  YOU CANNOT GO OFF ON YOUR OWN.  If you choose to do this, there will be undesirable consequences.  Students who are found separated from their group will be put with the director for the rest of the day.
BE RESPONSIBLE!!!  BE WHERE YOU NEED TO BE ON TIME!!!!!
When we enter NY Penn Station, we will assemble in a meeting location to determine where we will meet at the end of each day.  Remind 101 text messages will be sent to the group throughout the day to help with reminders and announcements.
Students may wear regular school clothes on Friday(after we perform), Saturday, Sunday, and Monday — as long as they meet Gaston County Dress Code Standards.
-Shorts should be at least finger-tip length.
-No bare midriffs
-No spaghetti straps
-No offensive language/topics on clothing
-Please wear comfortable shoes for walking.

Make wise decisions with your money.  DO NOT OVERSPEND YOUR BUDGET.  Keep track of how much you have and budget for each day.  It is easy to spend a lot of money on souvenirs in NYC.
Chaperones, please stay with the group—wait for students and always keep your group together.
Students are not to mingle with strangers.  Unfortunately, we cannot trust anyone we do not know.
Please make sure that you get the cell phone numbers of students and chaperones in your group and that they have your number in case someone accidentally gets separated.
Chaperones will be in charge of keeping up with tickets for each student in their group.

ANY STUDENT PROBLEMS should be directed to the assigned chaperone.  If it needs further attention, refer to the director- (Mr. Gibson)
