NYC Updated Itinerary

4-27-17
Depart for NYC from FHS at 9:30am
13 hour bus ride
Stop for lunch and dinner along the way
Continue driving to NYC
Check in at hotel
Arrive at hotel around 11pm

Eat breakfast at hotel
Leave hotel for school performance at 8am. (Tentatively Port Jervis High School)
Perform at 10am (official times TBA)
Leave Port Jervis NY at 11:30am
Lunch at mall (Galleria Mall Middletown NY) around 12:00pm
Back at hotel to drop off equipment/change 2pm
3pm Depart for NYC
Students will be in groups of 5-10 with a chaperone
-Drop off at Times Square (with groups)
-see local attractions (free)
- Students can use their CITY PASS and go to one attraction. (I suggest seeing one of the museums during this time)
- 6pm dinner on your own (with group)
10pm Meet back at Penn Station with groups to Secaucus Junction to get on the bus back to hotel in NJ

NYC TRIP DEPOSIT DUE FOR STUDENTS THIS THURSDAY DECEMBER 1st ($95)



The $95 deposit for the NYC trip is due this Thursday on December 1st. If a student does not submit their deposit on December 1st they will not be allowed to go on the trip. Below is an update on all the costs/deadlines for the trip. Parent chaperone deposits will be discussed at the next band booster meeting on December 6th at 6pm. If you have any questions please email Mr. Gibson.


Price break down for 78 people total

Transportation: $7,789 per bus. (2 buses total $15,578 round trip)
($200 per person if 2 buses are needed based on 59 students and 19 chaperones)
(If more parents or students come on this trip the more the cost of transportation is lowered.)

Hotel: $95 per student (includes tax) $24 per day.
Hotel for chaperone is $95 per day. Total : $425 for one room from Thursday – Monday
(If there are 2 parents per room this will cut the cost to $213)

NYC TRAVEL PASS: $95 (student) $116 (adult)

The parade starts at 4pm.  
The parade will start at the Food Lion in Cramerton and will end down at the railroad tracks. (8th Ave.)
ETA back to FHS is 6pm.

Playing Test Today (Spring Band Placements for 3rd and 4th Period)

All students will have a playing test on Monday or Tuesday.  This playing test will determine if a student will be in 4th period band or 3rd period band in the spring. All students will be judged fairly using a performance grading rubric.  Students will be responsible for knowing all 12 major scales, concert music, and sight reading. 

Concert Band(3rd period) and Symphonic Band (4th Period)  consists of 9-12 grade students.  They will all be learning the same music throughout the spring and performing on the spring concert. As of right now both groups will be going to the NC Music Performance Festival in March. 

If a student needs to get their schedule changed for the spring they will be notified immediately after placements have been posted.

There will be a material check on Monday 11-20-16.  All students must have their band method book, pencil, music and instrument at their seat for a 100% for a quiz grade.  If a student is missing any of these items at the time of the material check they will receive a 0%. The book can be ordered online or at any music store.

HOME FOOTBALL GAME TONIGHT 6PM CALL TIME (SENIOR NIGHT)

Here is the information for tomorrow:

Call time is 10:30am

Bus leaves at 1pm

Arrive at District III Stadium by 1:40pm

FHS performs at 3:30pm in Prelims

Prelim awards are at 4:15pm

(We will find out if we make finals during the prelim award ceremony.  If we make finals depending on our time we will go out to eat then head back to perform.  If we do not make finals we will go out to eat and then head home.)

Final awards are at 9:15pm

ETA back to FHS is 10pm if we make finals. ETA Back to FHS is 6pm if we do not make finals.

Optional Veterans Day Performance 11-11-16

Students that attend this parade will receive extra credit. 

Students will need to pick up their instrument and uniform at 9am from the band room.  
We will carpool from FHS at 9:15am
Students will need to be dropped off at the Shrimp Boat in Gastonia for rehearsal. 
The parade will start at 11am and should end by 11:30am. 
Please pick your child up at the end of the parade and take them back to Forestview to drop off instrument and uniform.

Competition November 5th Band Beat Rock Hill SC (District III Stadium across from Winthrop University)

Parents and Students,


Here is the information for this Saturday:

Call time is 10:30am

Bus leaves at 1pm

Arrive at District III Stadium by 1:40pm

FHS performs at 3:30pm in Prelims

Prelim awards are at 4:15pm

(We will find out if we make finals during the prelim award ceremony.  If we make finals depending on our time we will go out to eat then head back to perform.  If we do not make finals we will go out to eat and then head home.)

Final awards are at 9:15pm

ETA back to FHS is 10pm if we make finals. ETA Back to FHS is 6pm if we do not make finals.
